The Schaghticoke Town hall was the place to be for the 6th annual Melrose Mile. Kids ranging from ages 2 to 13 laced up their sneakers on Saturday to take on the revamped course. The race, one of the highlights for the Community Partners Harvest festival was 3870 feet of tough terrain. Runners had to overcome some obstacles on the course, like high grass, steep hills and a bee’s nest. The pesky yellow jackets might have a little to do with the faster than anticipated times at the finish line.

The final 80 yards it was down to 2 kids to see who was going to be this year’s champ! At the finish line Ethan Sheldon, running for Sheldon Pumpkins finished first just ahead of last year’s runner up Dillion Speanburg who was running for Eddie Brown #brownstrong. The defending champ Mason Speanburg who was running for Evolution finish third. After the race all the runners received an apple thanks to Lakeview Orchards, and bottled water from Cheeseburgers Bob’s.

While the runners enjoyed the post-race refreshments, registration officials Melissa and Ron Simpson along with Bobby Keyes had to get the times and registration forms all in proper order for the award ceremony, and course officials John Rustin and Tara Antolick made sure no stragglers were left out on the course. Ethan Sheldon was presented the Rustin Trophy which was donated by the Schaghticoke Entertainment Committee. The remaining winners were presented with Melrose Mile Medals donate by The Hoosic Valley Athletic Association.
