Planned Safety Drill

Lockdown Drill

Update: our lockdown drills are complete in both buildings.

Posted 2/10:  Hoosic Valley Central School District has a planned safety drill for Friday morning, February 12th. As you may know, our district level Safety Plan outlines a number of safety drills and activities to guide our emergency preparedness. As a part of this process, we conduct four lockdown drills each year to practice our response to an unwanted intruder in one of our buildings.

This Friday morning, we will be conducting a Lockdown drill in both the Elementary and Junior-Senior High Schools, in conjunction with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department and the New York State Police.

As our first of the year, this drill is announced to the community and all faculty and staff. To ensure our preparedness for unexpected events, we will hold future drills that we do not announce in advance. Whenever we hold a lockdown drill, we post the information on the school’s website at the time of the drill, or soon thereafter.

Due to social distancing concerns, lockdown drills will look different this year. Under normal circumstances, students huddle in a portion of the room out of view. However, this year when the lockdown is announced students will remain at their desks. Teachers will review with students where they should huddle in the classroom in the event that an actual lockdown needs to be called.

Our teachers will talk to the children about the drill in advance, but we also encourage parents to talk with your children about safety drills, and encourage them to take them seriously. Please contact the school main offices with any questions.

Thank you for your support with this important safety drill.
