Studentś in Mrs. Clarkś 6th grade Social Studies opted to participate in the ongoing investigation behind the death of boy pharaoh, King Tutankhamen. In this exciting extracurricular activity, students explored the mystery behind King Tut’s death using primary and secondary sources like MRI reports and character profiles. After receiving multiple clues, students came up with their own analysis on the mysterious and sudden death of King Tut. Was it murder? An Accident? Illness? All of the Above? Youĺl just have to ask one of these detectives to find out why!

When we talk about the different learning standards our teachers and students have to meet they can be a little overwhelming. BUT what a fun way to get students interested in history.
NYS Social Studies Overview: Social Studies is intended to promote civic competence through the integrated study of the
social sciences and humanities. Within the school program, Social Studies provides coordinated,
systematic study that draws upon such disciplines as anthropology, archaeology, economics,
geography, history, law, philosophy, political science, psychology, religion, belief systems, and
sociology, as well as upon appropriate content from the humanities, mathematics, and natural
sciences. The primary purpose of Social Studies is to help young people develop the ability to
make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse,
democratic society in an interdependent world (adapted from the National Council for the
Social Studies [NCSS] definition of Social Studies).
I think Mrs. Clark and our 6th graders did a great job meeting the standards with this project!
