Update on Potential Threat at High School

Update on Potential Threat at High School
Posted on 03/10/2023

Dear Hoosic Valley families,

The Hoosic Valley Central School District administration was made aware this afternoon of a bomb threat written on an object, by a student, in front of a school employee.  The adults in this High School classroom immediately confiscated the object and contacted a school administrator.  The School Resource Officer was notified, and the student was removed from the classroom and then the school.  School Administrators and the School Resource Officer confirmed that there was no bomb.

In New York State, it is a Class E felony for anyone to issue a false bomb threat directed toward a school. Individuals convicted of issuing a bomb threat face felony criminal prosecution, as well as a one-year suspension of their driver’s license.

We will be working with the police to pursue this matter vigilantly and we will punish those responsible. We suggest parents discuss this situation with their children and emphasize that there are severe consequences of such actions even if the threat is made in jest. The safety of our students is one of our primary concerns and all threats, no matter how vague, will be investigated.

Thank you for your attention to this important information.

Sincerely,

Jim Buhrmaster

Superintendent of Schools
