The Board of Education of the Hoosic Valley Central School District and Superintendent
Jim Buhrmaster would like to invite any interested students and community members to a
Public Forum on Monday January 9 at 6:30 in the High School Cafeteria to hear a
presentation on the new regulations regarding mascots and provide some time for you to
share your thoughts.
The New York State Department of Education and the Board of Regents have informed
schools, with Native American Mascots or imagery, that they will need to retire these
mascot names and imagery very soon. A presentation has been put together to explain
the new regulations, give the historical and legal background and share the perspectives
of recognized native american tribes. The rest of our evening will be organized so that
our students and community members can share their thoughts and ideas with the school
district.
