Dear Parents and Guardians,

This spring our district and many other districts around our state will be participating in computerized-based testing (CBT) in April and May as part of the New York State Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Tests. Part of the transition to computerized-based testing is to make sure districts around New York State have the technology and network capacity to participate in CBT.

To do this, Hoosic Valley will be taking part in a state-wide CBT simulation to test our network. Hoosic Valley students in grades 3-8 will participate in the simulation on various days throughout January 17-27 with different grade levels doing a “dry run” for the operational tests in the spring. Your child’s teacher will let them know which days they will be practicing. Students will take a practice test lasting around 40 minutes. No student responses will be scored as part of this practice. Other than charging their Chromebooks (charge overnight for the simulation the next day) and bringing them to school, there is nothing that students need to do in preparation. The goal of the simulation is to provide CBT administration experience in school and an opportunity for students to practice with the online tools and navigate the online exam.

We encourage you to view the sample test questions that are similar to the questions that the students will be taking in the simulation. You may see them at https://ny.nextera.questarai.com/tds/#practice.  Please contact your child’s principal if you have any questions or concerns about the simulation or the upcoming computerized-based testing in the spring.

Thank you for your time,
