Weekly COVID Update 2-12-2021

Weekly COVID Update
Posted on 02/14/2021

An update from Michelle Przedwiecki, MPH, Hoosic Valley COVID Coordinator:

It has been very encouraging to see the number of COVID cases coming down the last few weeks. At this time, there are no new cases. Thank you for all that you do to keep the school community safe and healthy.

With winter recess coming up Feb 13-21, I wanted to reach out with a few reminders and an update.

Please consider any travel very carefully, as this could impact you or your student’s ability to come to school. If you must travel, please follow the NYS travel guidelines.

All travelers coming to NYS from areas beyond the border states (NJ, CT, PA, MA, VT) must fill out this form upon entering New York.

Travelers that are asymptomatic must quarantine for 10 days after returning from a non-border state or another country, unless the traveler meets certain criteria.

The guidelines for travelers to test-out of the mandatory 10-day quarantine are below:

For travelers who were out-of-state for more than 24 hours:

  • Travelers must obtain a test within three days of departure, prior to arrival in New York.
  • The traveler must, upon arrival in New York, quarantine for three days.
  • On day 4 of their quarantine, the traveler must obtain another COVID test. If both tests come back negative, the traveler may exit quarantine early upon receipt of the second negative diagnostic test.

In the Governor’s press release yesterday, it was announced that NYS will follow the updated quarantine guidance from CDC. Individuals that are fully vaccinated (it’s been at least 2 weeks since the second dose, and the vaccine was within the last 3 months) will no longer need to quarantine after an exposure to a positive COVID case as long as they don’t have any symptoms.  The travel guidelines are still in place, even if fully vaccinated.

When you return from any travel, let me know if you hear from the county health department. They should release you before you return to school/work. (I get an update of the student list from RCDOH every evening.) If you plan to test twice (before and after returning) to potentially shorten the 10-day quarantine, you (your student) may be cleared to return if you have 2 negative test results and are symptom free. Check in with me to make sure that you (or your student) are cleared before you return.

Continue to be careful and practice social-distancing, handwashing, and the proper use of well-fitting masks if you are outside your home, gather with anyone from outside your household or go to public places.

In addition, reach out if someone in your household becomes symptomatic, has an exposure to a positive case or tests positive for COVID. The best way to reach me over break is by email [email protected]

Have a safe and restful winter recess.
