Covid Update 4-19-2021
Posted on 04/20/2021

The Hoosic Valley Central School District had three members of our school community test positive for COVID-19 last week. One is a member of the elementary school and the other two are from the high school.  The positive individuals are isolated and any individuals that were in close or proximate contact with the cases are in quarantine, and the mandatory quarantines are being managed by the school COVID Coordinator in conjunction with the Rensselaer County Health Department.

We still have COVID cases in our school community, and a common thing that we hear from positive cases is that it "feels like seasonal allergies" or "It's just a cold." If you or your student displays any symptoms, even mild ones, stay home/keep them home and follow up with your primary care provider or get tested. Be sure to be cleared by the COVID Coordinator before returning to school.

Please remember that we require proper-fitting, double layer masks to be worn to school. Please discuss with your student the importance of wearing their mask over their mouth and nose. (Gaiters and bandanas are not allowed.)

Regardless of whether you are required to quarantine, it is still important that anyone (even if vaccinated) who is displaying symptoms stay home and be cleared before returning to school. You can still get COVID even if you are fully vaccinated.

Please encourage your student to continue to practice social distancing and mask-wearing outside of school any time they are in a public setting or visiting with friends.

All students and employees must continue to:

  • Monitor for any symptoms. If symptomatic, stay home and call the school nurse or COVID Coordinator.
  • Practice frequent hand washing.
  • Wear a face mask while in school, at school events or after-school activities, in public, or in close proximity to another individual.

If you or your student develops symptoms, takes a COVID test, or tests positive, please contact Michelle Przedwiecki, MPH, the COVID Coordinator at  mprzedwiecki@hoosicvalley.org.

Please note that privacy laws restrict us from disclosing or confirming any personally identifiable information. We cannot and will not identify anyone who has tested positive.

We cannot emphasize enough the importance of continuing to be conscientious and careful outside of the school to ensure your student’s health and safety.

We continue to work closely with the Rensselaer County Department of Health and follow their guidance. Thank you all for your cooperation during this uncertain time.
