Regents - June 2020

Regents - June 2020
Posted on 04/10/2020

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Mr. Apostol notified everyone earlier this week that Regents Exams have been cancelled for June 2020.  We have received guidance on how that impacts students. There are many facets to the guidance received.  The following bullets are how it affects the vast majority of our students.

• A student that is currently enrolled in the course of study culminating in a Regents Exam and by the scheduled date of the June 2020 Regents Examination will have earned credit in such course of study.  To earn course credit a student must receive a course average of at least 65. In short, if a student passes their Regents course, they receive Regents credit for that course.

• A student will receive Regents credit if that student was previously enrolled in the course leading to an applicable Regents Examination, has achieved course credit, and has not yet passed the associated Regents Exam but was intending to take the test in June to achieve a passing score.  In short, if a student planned on retaking a Regents Exam and had previously received course credit, they will receive Regents credit.

• If a student is currently enrolled in a course of study culminating in a Regents Examination and has failed to earn credit by the end of the school year, such student must attend summer instruction to make up the failed course credit.  If that student does not attend summer instruction to receive credit they will have to take the course again in the 2020-2021 school year and pass the Regents Exam.

Although this is a difficult time for all of us, it is also an opportunity for many of our students that struggle with major exams to earn credit towards graduation.  The third bullet leads me to stress the importance of students returning any back work for the Third Marking Period to help ensure that students can receive course credit.  Administration, our Guidance Department, and our faculty will continue to work with students and families to help earn the credit.

If you have additional questions about how this affects your child please contact their guidance counselor.

Thank you and please continue to be safe.
