Distracted Driving

Hangup and Drive
Posted on 12/09/2019
On Friday, Hoosic Valley Jr. Sr. High School students had a very important guest visit the school to do a presentation on distracted driving. Jacy Good and her husband Steve have a powerful story they have shared with  our students in grades 10-12 along with thousands of people throughout New York and surrounding states, especially new drivers.

In May of 2003, Jacy was involved in a horrific car accident that changed her life and those who love her dearly. The accident took the life of her parents and forced her to spend 4 months in the hospital and rehabilitation due to the severity of her injuries she sustained in that car accident. One of the happiest days of her life was ruined by a distracted driver who was talking on a cell phone.

Some of our students asked some great questions and some wanted to share their own experiences with distracted driving. We at Hoosic Valley wish to thank Jacy and Steve for sharing their lives with our students and staff and hope they continue to share their story with everyone they can.

Parents please remind your young drivers to put away the cell phone when they get behind the wheel.  And don't forget ---- that applies to us experienced drivers as well!  Model the behavior we wish to see in our students  - HANG UP AND DRIVE.

Thanks to Deputy Manny for arranging this assembly with Rensselear County and providing this valuable information to our students.
