Class of 2020 HS Graduation

Class of 2020 HS Graduation
Posted on 05/22/2020

Dear Parents and Guardians of the Class of 2020,

I wanted to update you that the school administration met with a committee of seniors and parents this morning in order to revise plans for graduation. We focused on ways to have all of our graduates together while also maintaining everyone’s safety. The committee is currently looking into the logistics of a variety of plans that can hopefully meet those needs. Once the plans have been formulated, Senior Class Advisors will be seeking feedback from all seniors via The Class of 2020 on Google Classroom and the Remind app. The Remind app class code is @7d4khh. Please encourage your child to sign up to both of those platforms if they have not done so already in order to provide the committee with feedback.

At this time the plan we mailed home earlier this week is being regarded as a contingency plan in case other plans fall through for logistical reasons or restraints on public gatherings imposed by the governor’s office. One update to that plan is that we have secured the Hathaway Drive-In for Monday June 29th at 9 p.m.

We will continue to send you updates when we have more information. Please do not hesitate to contact me at school with questions or concerns. Have a wonderful Memorial Day Weekend.

Sincerely,

Eric Papandrea

Dear Senior Parents and Guardians,

We have looked at many options regarding graduation, weighing how to maintain people’s safety while still providing a memorable experience for our graduates. With that in mind, we have decided to make graduation a virtual event. However, we feel it is still important for students to be able to walk across the stage with their diploma while their family is present to celebrate this special event. To that end we are planning on having each student come to school in their cap and gown to have their name announced and walk across the stage in the Elementary school auditorium. Every graduate is allowed to invite nine (9) family members to watch them cross the stage and take pictures afterwards in a designated area. Each graduate will be taped crossing the stage. All speeches will be pre-recorded and put together along with our videos that we normally show at our traditional graduation ceremony. We have currently put together a schedule and a 10 minute time slot for your child and their families. Your child’s scheduled date & time are included with this memo. Please rsvp to Mrs. Lewis @ 753-4432 ext. #2506 as soon as possible to hold their appointment.

Some basic information we can provide to you at this time:

  • Students should pick up their cap and gowns beginning Monday, June 8th through Thursday, June 11th between the hours of 8:30 - 2 at the high school attendance window.
  • We are going to begin our recording schedule of students crossing the stage with diplomas on June 15th.
  • Unfortunately, the Baccalaureate Service for the graduates has been canceled due to Covid-19.
  • The video will be posted on the Hoosic Valley website when complete. We are also looking into a possible viewing party at a drive-in, where families can watch the video from the safety of their cars
  • Further details will be forthcoming in another letter next week.

This letter, along with your graduate’s time slot for the week of June 15 has been placed in the mail today. Feel free to contact me with any concerns or questions at 753-4432 ext. #2506.

Sincerely,

Eric A. Papandrea
7-12 Principal
