Hoosic Valley uses a variety of methods to get the word out to parents.

  • Letters sent home with students – we realize papers don’t always reach the end goal so we will also post on the school website and may email to parents as well.
  • School Website – We update our school website frequently – we tend to post notes on the home page rather than the individual HS and Elementary pages.  Make sure to check our home page for updates and coming events. We also post the Jr. Sr. High School daily announcements on the Jr. Sr. High Page. If you are accessing our website from a mobile device rather than a computer, check out the Blue Strip labeled menu at the top of the page – it’s all the links to navigate the system, there’s a lot of useful information under the Parents Menu.
  • Interactive Calendar – In the left hand bottom corner of the home page is our interactive calendar.  If you’re using a mobile device it’s under the logo and photo slide show.  If you click on the blue stripe labeled Upcoming Events you will be redirected to the calendar program we use.  On this page you can use iCal/RSS button to sign up for updates from the calendar.
  • Phone Calls, Emails and Text Alerts – We use an automated service called School Messenger to make phone calls, send emails and text alerts to parents.  The phone calls and emails are automatic but parents MUST SIGN UP FOR TEXT ALERTS.  This requirement to sign up for text messages is a federal requirement aimed at cutting down spam messages and unwanted text charges.
  • To sign up for alerts just text the word yes to 67587. The signup text message must be sent from the phone on which you wish to receive the alerts. We must have your cell number in our system for you to receive the alerts. This is a security feature that is meant to ensure that only Hoosic Valley parents and guardians are receiving our emergency messages.  If you change phone numbers make sure to alert the main office of your new contact information, you will have to also sign up for alerts again from the new phone.
  • Automated Calls, Emails and Text Alerts – we don’t always email the entire district, sometimes messages are only sent to grade levels or individual buildings.  We also sometimes only email without calling or texting.  It depends on the urgency of message and if we can clearly communicate the message in a short text.
  • Electronic Sign in Front of the High School – quick reminders are posted on the sign – we have limited space and don’t want to be too distracting to drivers.
  • Closing and Delays - In the event of a closing or delay we will notify parents by email and text.  We do not make phone calls to student households.  We also post the information on our website and notify local news agencies.  You can check on the area TV stations and online news services.
