Dear Parent/Guardian:
The Hoosic Valley Central School District has been pleased to provide free breakfast and lunch meals to all students over the past several years. During the pandemic, schools were able to offer meals at no cost to all students due to temporary flexibilities provided by the federal government. It was an unprecedented move to help families deal with the ongoing pandemic. Unfortunately, these flexibilities have expired, and schools are no longer able to provide free meals to all students in the 2023-2024 school year.
Schools must now transition back to charging for meals based on program eligibility. Households may complete a Free and Reduced Price Meal Application (attached). Children from households that meet Federal income guidelines are eligible for free meals or reduced-price meals. Students in New York State who are approved for reduced-price meals will continue to receive breakfast and lunch meals at no charge.
Children are automatically eligible for free meals if anyone in their household receives SNAP, TANF, or FDPIR benefits. Some families with Medicaid may also qualify. You will be notified if your child is automatically eligible.
Children who do not qualify for free or reduced-price meals may pay full price for a healthy breakfast or lunch at school. Meal prices for the 2023-2024 school year are below, and are unchanged from pre-pandemic levels.
Breakfast
$1.35
Lunch
ES-$2.25
HS-$2.50
The Nutri-Kids program is able to offer on-line account management, called My School Bucks, where you can view transactions and deposit money on-line. Please be aware
you must have your student's school ID code, not their 4 digit lunch number. High School students can find this number on their schedule or a recent copy of their report card.
You can create an account for your child by following the instructions on www.myschoolbucks.com .You may also add money to multiple student accounts at one time. More information about this system can be found at http://learnmyschoolbucks.com/Parent/
We are looking forward to serving healthy, nutritious meals to our students in the new school year. If you have any questions, please contact the Food Services Department at 518-753-4458 x 2516 .
Sincerely,
Michelle Gillespie
