For one night only, the students of Hoosic Valley Rep Theatre Company are putting aside their rehearsal scores and scripts for their March musical to perform a different kind of event. Called a Cabaret, the event is a collage of solos, duets, and ensemble musical numbers from some of the most popular musicals from Broadway and American Film. Hoosic Valley Rep Theatre Company (hereafter called “HV Rep) is the name of the drama club at Hoosic Valley Jr./Sr. High School, which is open to all students in 7th through 12th grade. The Cabaret will take place on Thursday, January 17th at 7pm at the Hoosic Valley Elementary School Auditorium and tickets are $5 at the door only.
The Cabaret features ensemble numbers from Spongebob Squarepants: The Musical, Les Miserables, Dear Evan Hansen, The Lion King, Wicked, and The Greatest Showman. Outstanding solos and duets come from some of the same shows listed previously and 9 to 5 the Musical, Waitress, Mamma Mia!, and 13: The Musical. This event is family friendly.
The cast of the Cabaret are also hard at work on their upcoming production of Catch Me If You Can the weekend of March 29th through 31st. A wildly entertaining musical based on the movie and book of the same name, Catch Me If You Can chronicles the life of Frank Abagnale, Jr., a conman from New York, who was a multi-millionaire by the age of 21 before being caught by the FBI in the late 1960s. Although he lived a life full of falsities, Abagnale turned to helping the FBI catch criminals like himself and is currently an entrepreneur and a motivational speaker.
