The Lock-Out at our schools has been lifted. Students will continue their regular school activities for the rest of the day, including outdoor activities.
Several local districts and many others across New York State were hit by swatting incidents this morning. Swatting is a criminal harassment tactic of deceiving an emergency service (via such means as hoaxing an emergency services dispatcher) into sending a police or emergency service response team to another address. Due to these concerns and a recommendation from law enforcement we instituted a Lock-Out for a short period of time this morning.
The Hoosic Valley Central School District did not receive one of these calls and we have no reason to believe that there is, or was, a credible threat at either of our schools. Other school districts are currently lifting their Lock-Outs and Lockdowns based on law enforcement recommendations.
The uptick in these types of incidents are concerning, but we will always put safety first and work with law enforcement to keep our students and staff safe. I can’t thank our full staff and law enforcement enough for taking safety seriously and keeping our students calm and safe.
