**Pre-K Lottery Sign-ups (read below for more information) will be open from 3/1/23-5/12/23**
The Pre-Kindergarten is a special program established by the State Education Department to provide an early learning experience for children (age 4) of eligible families. Hoosic Valley has two Pre-K classrooms, which run a full day, Monday through Friday, 5 hours each day for 180 days per school year.
Eligible students are defined as those living in the Hoosic Valley School District and who will turn 4 years old by December 1st of the current year. We will start collecting names for the 2023-2024 school year on March 1, 2023 and continue to collect them through May 12, 2023. We will run a lottery drawing, in early June, with all the names collected between those dates. The Pre-K lottery process consists of the Elementary building principal, Pre-K teachers, and the Elementary secretary randomly selecting eligible students for the program from the lottery list. All parents will be contacted via email as to whether or not their child is chosen for the program. If you then accept entrance to the program, registration papers will be mailed to you. In order to complete the registration process, we must have copies of the following:
- A copy of your child’s original birth certificate
- A completed signed/stamped record of up-to-date immunizations, and a physical dated within the last year.
- Two (2) Proofs of residency (documentation showing your name & address i.e. tax bill, bank statement, mortgage/lease agreement, utility bill, etc.)
This program will be contingent upon continued funding from the New York State Education Department. So, once funding is confirmed and the program approved by the HVCSD Board of Education, that is the time, in June, that eligible students will be selected by the lottery drawing as mentioned above. Students not selected via the lottery will be placed on a waitlist. All parents will be notified either way.
