Hoosic Valley Represents at NYSSMA Songwriting Showcase in Rochester
Hoosic Valley 7th Grader, Mackenna Pashley, was selected as a winner of the annual NYSSMA Student Songwriters Showcase for 2022. This is a competition held annually for students all over the state in grades K-12. A team of music educators led by Dr. Rob Deemer of SUNY Fredonia selects winners who are then invited to receive live feedback from professionals across the state. This is part of the annual New York State School Music Association winter conference, which takes place in Rochester, NY the first weekend in December each year. Mackenna traveled to Rochester last weekend to participate in this event.

Mackenna has been songwriting for a few years. Her songs have been featured in the Diver Library's "Let's Make a Song" program and accompanying CDs. Her primary songwriting teacher is Nick Matulis, director of the Diver Library. The last time Hoosic Valley has sent a student for a composition showcase was Hunter Galvin ('17) in 2016.
