This summer six students from Hoosic Valley were
selected to participate in an honor choir in Albany, NY. The American
Choral Directors Association (ACDA) sponsored select choirs for students
at the elementary, junior high, and senior high level as part of the
New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA) Summer Conference. This
was the first honor choir at the conference since the summer of 2019
due to the ongoing pandemic.
The musicians from Hoosic Valley were part of the
Elementary Honor Choir, which had students who just finished 4th grade
through 6th grade from all over the state of New York. The group
rehearsed for about 6 hours on Monday, August 15th at the College of St.
Rose Massry Center for the Arts, and about 3 hours on Tuesday, August
16th at the Hilton hotel and conference center in Albany, NY. The
culminating concert (for parents, community members, and conference
participants) took place immediately following the second day of
rehearsals.
The conductor was Elizabeth Woodhouse who is a former
New York State music teacher and currently an adjunct professor at
University of Rhode Island and a founding member of a community
children’s choir in that area.
The Hoosic Valley students selected for the honor choir
were: Lilith Bonsor (‘28), Ian Burrows (‘28), Fiona Coffin (‘28),
Patricia Paglialonga (‘30), Adrianna Smith (‘30), and Gianna Viall
(‘30). Below are some pictures/videos from the event!
