Vet Science

Vet Science via the Distance Learning Network
Posted on 03/09/2020
Our Vet Science students have recently been creating 3-D skeletal models out of pasta for their Distance Learning Vet Science class. Sounds easy but they are incredibly detailed. This activity helped students understand the five major functions of the skeletal system: body structure and support, movement in connection with the muscular system, protection of internal organs, production of blood, and storage of nutrients.

This class originates from Schoharie High School and for years has been taught by HV Alumni David Marbot. Mr. Marbot recently retired but we are happy that Schoharie has continued their Ag program and our students have an opportunity to add to their transcripts with additional electives through the Distance Learning Network.

Along with the Vet Science course work our students were given the opportunity to join FFA and attend the Leadership Development Conference in Syracuse. This gave our students the chance to expand teambuilding and problem solving skills in new and unique ways.

“Our” new Vet Science teacher, Mrs. Bogardus, requires our students to use technology in new and different of ways and enter the online learning relm. At times this can be challenging for a variety of reasons, but in the end students have learned more than just the academics involved in the course material. We encourage our Juniors and Seniors to fill out their schedules with some of DL classes offered next year. It’s a great way to expand your skill set and prepare for college.

Some possible DL classes for the 2020-2021 school year are: Astronomy, Meteorology, Vietnam War, Sign Language, Ag Business, Vet Science, Animation, Digital Photography, Web Design, Video Game Design, Fashion Industry and Housing & Interior Design. We won’t be able to receive all of these classes but depending on student interest and availability they may be coming across the airwaves next fall. Along with the NERIC DL Network we have several courses available from Hudson Valley Community College: General Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Business Law, Criminal Justice and Sociology. These classes give our students the opportunity to earn college credits for some of the general requirements for most 4 year degree programs. Our guidance counselors will be discussing these exciting options as part of their course planning with students and parents.
