A message from the Superintendent
Hi Everyone:
I want to announce that the Evacuation Drill that was held on Friday November 8th was a great success.
This was a team effort that the entire district took part in so that we could be prepared for any emergency that would occur in which would have to evacuate our schools to keep our students safe and out of harm’s way. Aristotle once said “whatever we learn to do, we learn by actually doing it”. That is exactly what we did.
I want to acknowledge so many people for their due diligence in this exercise. First of all, the students were outstanding. They followed directions and reacted in a timely manner, listening to their teachers and school staff. The teachers and our staff showed their professionalism and their ability to act under circumstances that were new to all of us. They were able to mobilize their students without hesitation and with complete control.
The principals did a terrific job in planning the release of the students and the development of the system of accountability for each student once we arrived at our safe area at the fairgrounds.
Mr. Wayne Akin and his transportation department proved that they would be indispensable in times of emergency. Mr. Akin was instrumental in planning the logistics of the drill and his staff of bus drivers showed their professionalism in responding to the emergency drill and getting our students to a safe place. They also showed great compassion to students who for the first time were experiencing this sort of emergency drill.
Our School Resource Officer, Deputy Sheriff Eric Manny, was instrumental in arranging with the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department to block the intersections so that the buses could exit the school, cross the intersection at Routes 40 and 67, and enter the fairgrounds without getting stuck in any traffic problems.
Again, I cannot say enough about everyone involved who made this emergency drill the success that it was.
