Character Counts at Hoosic Valley

The elementary school held their first character counts assembly of the school year. Our character counts assemblies give students an opportunity to learn ways to show good character. People who show good character are kind to others, they help those who need it and they behave well at school, at home and in their community. They make our world a more peaceful place and we are so lucky at Hoosic Valley to have so many great role models!

Today’s program focused on responsibility and respect. The go hand in hand, when you show respect you are acting responsibly. Responsibility is taking ownership of your thoughts words and action.

Some of our third graders shared what respect means to them and how they show respect. And our teachers shared a great book about responsibility called “That Rule Doesn’t Apply to Me” by Julia Cook. Students were reminded that even through sometimes the rules seem overwhelming and just meant to make your life miserable - they are in place help everyone navigate the school day in a safe and productive way. A rule-free day would be a disaster!

Mrs. Nazarian’s class showed us more about respect and Mrs. Cady’s class shared a poem. Our K-2 teachers read the book “Train Your Dragon to be Respectful”, by Steve Herman. Our students learned that manners go a long way and you can never wear them out!
