Afternoon announcement regarding national walkouts

March 12, 2018 - The following is an important afternoon announcement made by HS Principal ,Mrs. Adams

This Wednesday, March 14 marks the one month anniversary of the tragic events that occurred at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida. As many of you may know some groups have organized planned walkouts on March 14 in observance of this anniversary to remember the victims and to also encourage lawmakers to pass stricter gun control laws. The Hoosic Valley Central School District supports students’ First Amendment Rights. However, based on law, school walkouts have been deemed a disruption, and therefore considered a violation of school district policy.

In remembrance of the victims of the Parkland tragedy we will observe a moment of silence at 10am on Wednesday, March 14. Please be advised that walkouts or any other form of disruptive protest will result in disciplinary action in accordance with our district code of conduct. This is to ensure student and staff safety as well as a learning environment free of disruptions. Mrs. Dobbs and Mrs. Adams are willing to meet with student groups to discuss non-disruptive means of expression regarding this issue.

If students have any questions please speak to Mrs. Dobbs or Mrs. Adams.

Thank you.
